Students completing this course will gain the skills and knowledge required to provide emergency care to a casualty with a suspected spinal injury, including spinal immobilisation, safe movement, monitoring, and handover to emergency services.
This course applies to individuals who may be required to respond to emergency situations in community or workplace settings, including emergency services personnel, volunteers, and first aid providers.

Course delivery

Pre-requisites
There are no formal prerequisite units required for entry into this course. Learners will require English language, literacy, numeracy, digital literacy (LLND) skills.
Entry requirements
Hold HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, which is not expired. You must confirm and agree that you will be able to demonstrate via evidence what is outlined above when you complete the ‘Declaration’ section.
Training requirements
Face to face training consists of theory presentations and range of practical learning activities and scenarios.
Assessment requirements
Assessment activities will include a knowledge test and practical assessment including identifying suspected spinal injuries, correct way to move the casualty and completion of incident report. Students will also complete scenarios in a simulated environment.
Course renewal requirements
There is no renewal recommendation set by industry for this course.
